AFC Grains wins Senior 1 League Championship at first attempt.
The AFC Grains team was formed 6 years ago when Luke Osman, weighbridge operator at Solent Stevedores got a group of friends together to play in the bottom rung of the Southampton Saturday League. Since then the club has steadily risen up the table. In Summer 2013 Solent Stevedores became team sponsor to help the club achieve its goal of reaching the Southampton Premier League. Unfortunately Luke had to retire due to a serious leg injury at the end of the 2013 season, but the team managed to realise its dream at the first attempt, winning the Southampton Senior 1 League Championship by a single point, ahead of close rivals, Solent Saints.
"Amazingly, the team did not lose a game during the whole season. Some would say this had a lot to do with my departure from the team but, of course, I couldn't possibly comment. The team will be looking to carry this success on and hopefully move forward in to the Hampshire League. All of us at AFC Grains are extremely grateful for Solent Stevedores continued interest and support."
