Congratulations to our Assistant Operations Manager, Scott, who has qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France, following an outstanding performance at a recent Ironman 70.3 middle-distance triathlon.
Competing against a field of 1,260 athletes, he secured one of just 30 qualifying places, earning the opportunity to compete at one of the sport’s most prestigious events this September.
Having taken part in triathlons since 2018, qualification has been a long-term goal.
“I’ve been aiming to qualify for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships for around six years. That’s when I started taking the sport more seriously and became more competitive, so achieving this has been incredibly rewarding.”
Balancing training with work and family life requires commitment and careful planning.
“I’m usually up at 5am to train before work. It means I’m not worrying all day about fitting sessions in and allows me to be present for my wife and kids when I get home. Maintaining that balance is really important.”
Scott gives us an insight into his strict training cycle of three build weeks followed by a recovery week, with sessions spread across swimming, cycling and running.
“A typical high-volume week includes early-morning swims, bike sessions, runs and strength work, with longer rides and runs at weekends. Every fourth week is a recovery week where the volume drops, but intensity remains, allowing my body to adapt and avoid burnout.”
In the final two weeks before a race, training volume is reduced so he arrives at the start line feeling fresh and ready to perform at his best. Nutrition and recovery are also key parts of the process, helping maximise performance and aid recovery between sessions.
With qualification now secured, Scott’s attention turns to a busy and exciting few months ahead, including the European Championships in Spain before taking on the world’s best athletes in Nice.
A huge congratulations from everyone at Team Solent. We’re proud to support your journey and wish you the very best for the European Championships and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
