Solent Stevedores are an established, family run business that specialises in Port Terminal Operations. We have a presence in several ports across the UK including Southampton, Immingham, London (London Gateway & Silvertown) and Jersey.

Solent Stevedores have an established maintenance team in Southampton and are looking for an Apprentice to join their team. The candidate will be expected to attend college on day release and learn to service, maintain, and repair heavy material handling equipment such as Empty Container Handlers, Loading Shovels and Bobcats.

You will need to be a self-motivated individual who is able to deliver to a high standard. If you are dedicated to delivering great service and want to join a growing family run business that looks after its people, then this role could be for you.

You will be supported by the Group Maintenance Manager, Site Operations Manager and be part of the maintenance team.

Requirements:

  • Self-motivated, flexible approach to work; disciplined, organised and have a can-do attitude
  • Health & safety awareness.
  • The ability to use initiative, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Attend Sparsholt College 1 day per week to complete the Agricultural engineering course.
  • GCSE Maths and English level 9-4 (A*-C) (if you do not hold this level you will be required to take it as part of your day at college)

Main Duties:

  • Assist with ensuring that all of the site operations are carried out in accordance with the requirements of all statutory legislation, dock regulations, and Company operational and Health & Safety policies.
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the team and promptly report & investigate any accidents or incidents.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor in ensuring all maintenance duties are undertaken and completed in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner
  • Assist in ensuring the maintenance workshop and all equipment and machinery is kept clean and in good working order
  • Complete equipment and machinery checklist on a regular basis and return to maintenance supervisor.
  • Ensure all breakdowns and repairs to equipment and machinery are carried out in efficient manner
  • Assist with maintenance weekend cover and call out cover as and when required.· Any other duties as required from time to time by the Company.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent 

Pay: £7.00-£12.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
