Job Description:

Solent Stevedores are an established, family run business that specialises in Port Terminal Operations.  We have a presence in several ports across the UK including Southampton, Immingham, London (London Gateway & Silvertown) and Jersey. 

Solent Stevedores have an established maintenance team in Southampton and now require a London based qualified maintenance fitter to work on heavy material handling equipment.  The job will be predominantly based at our depot in London Gateway (Essex) but will require you to travel to our site in Silvertown (Newham) when required. 

The candidate will be expected to service, maintain, and repair heavy material handling equipment such as Empty Container Handlers, Loading Shovels and Bobcats.  

You will need to be a self-motivated individual who is able to deliver to a high standard. If you are dedicated to delivering great service and want to join a growing family run business that looks after its people, then this role could be for you.You will be supported by the Group Maintenance Manager,  Site Operations Manager and be part of eight person maintenance team who are based in Southampton. 

Requirements:

  • Must have experience working on heavy material handling equipment. 
  • Good understanding of relevant Health & Safety requirements of role.
  • Experience in servicing/repairing/diagnosing components.
  • Experience with hydraulic & pneumatics.
  • The ability to use initiative and meet tight deadlines.
  • Travel between our London Gateway site and our Tate and Lyle site.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing workload.
  •  Full UK driving licence. 

Main Duties:

  • Provide preventative maintenance support to both sites. 
  • Repair and servicing of equipment. 
  • Ensure completion of company documentation relating to servicing and repairs
  • Maintaining tools and equipment to a high standard.
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the team and promptly report any accidents or incidents.

Job Type: Full-time 

Site opening hours are: Monday – Friday – 06:00 – 19:00.  We propose a working day of 07:30 – 16:30 but are happy to be flexible on this if core hours are covered. Over time will be available. Site is open on a Saturday (06:00 – 12:00) when required.
