Port of St Helier, Jersey
Elizabeth Terminal & New North Quay
Based at the Elizabeth Terminal and New North Quay at the Port of St Helier, Jersey, Solent Stevedores provides Roll on Roll off (RO/RO) passenger ferry services and Lift on, Lift Off (LO/LO) services to importers and exporters of dry bulk and other commodities to and from the island.
More than 98% of the island of Jersey’s imports and exports are handled by the Ports of Jersey. This equates to more than 450,000 tonnes of cargo per year.
LIFT on, Lift off (LO/LO) at New North Quay, St Helier
We provide LO/LO services for around 50,000 tonnes of aggregate cargo, containerised commercial shipping cargo and dry bulk from 130m of deep-water quay at the New North Quay.
Two shipping/haulage companies currently operate a regularly scheduled cargo shipping service between the UK and the Channel Islands.
Building on our excellent business partner relationship with the Ports of Jersey, we provide quayside crane operations with equipment include Liebherr LHM250 capable of lifting 64ton, Kone 20ton Fork Lift Truck, Kalmar 16ton Fork Lift Truck, Kalmar 40ton Top Loader and a 42ton reach stacker.
Services operating from New North Quay include:
Channel Seaways – services from Poole in Dorset to Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney
Roll on Roll off (RO/RO), Elizabeth Terminal
The Ports of Jersey East and West berth RO/RO ramps at the Elizabeth Terminal facilitate the discharge and loading of road-going commercial freight carrying ambient and temperature-controlled consignments, mail to and from the Island, general cargo and other items including the export of the famous ‘Jersey Royal’ potatoes and local produce.
As space is limited at the Quayside, storage facilities are not available – incoming freight is collected on arrival by shippers and distributed directly, or through their Island depots.
420,000 tonnes of cargo per year passes through the Elizabeth terminal. This includes a comprehensive turnaround RO/RO service for loading and unloading freight and the daily passenger ferry services operated by Condor Ferries.
These vessels, arriving from Portsmouth via Guernsey and a once a week return service to and from Saint-Malo France, provide a lifeline service to the Channel Islands. Our services include baggage handling, vehicle marshalling, towing of baggage and freight pods, and quayside gangway operations.
