Since 2016, the dry bulk terminal operators at the Port of Southampton have been handling over 1 million tonnes of bulk each year with the latest figures topping 1.257 million tonnes – an 18% increase on 2020.
With dedicated bulk terminals at the Port of Southampton, Solent Stevedores handles commodities including animal feed, salt, fertiliser, grain, gypsum, recycled/scrap metal and aggregates and is a crucial part of the movement and flow of goods and vital supplies into the UK.
Tom Dynes, Operations Director at Solent Stevedores, said: “Year on year we’re seeing increases in the volume of bulk we’re handling at the Port of Southampton and it is a great news to be heading into the new year with such a strong start.
“We’re really proud of the role we play with supporting the UK economy with imports and exports and we continue to invest in our infrastructure so these operations can continue to grow.”
In addition to the operations at the UK’s leading Export Port in Southampton, Solent Stevedores undertakes both one off and regular dry bulk shipments at the Port of London, Immingham and St Helier in the Channel Islands. The business has also recently expanded its operations to Saint Malo where it handles around 400,000 tonnes of dry bulk each year.
