Solent Stevedores, based in the Western Docks of the Port of Southampton, is hosting a free social event to bring retired former colleagues back together.
Recognising a large community of retired port workers, the UK leading cruise stevedoring partner, is organising a social event on Friday 3 September to bring together past employees of the Port of Southampton.
The award-winning cargo handlers hosted the first social event before lockdown and more than 18 months later, are able to bring it back to previous port workers.
Zak McElvenny, at Solent Stevedores, said: “Our first event was such a success, we are really pleased to be bringing it back now that it’s safe to do so.
“Colleagues in the port industry aren’t just work mates, they often become more like family, so it has been important for us provide this space for retired colleagues to catch up and reminisce about their former jobs. These events become a lifeline for some.”
The event on Friday 3 September will be held at The View Bar in Southampton from 6pm. There will be food and drink and the event is free to attend if you are of retired age, a past employee of at the port for a minimum of five years.
